This referral line covers all three Cranston ZIP codes and the towns around the city, across Providence and Kent counties. When you call, a short prompt asks for your ZIP code, and we'll try to connect you with an independent garage door company that works in your area. Coverage depends on which local companies are taking calls at the time.
Below are short notes on each town: the kinds of homes and garages in it, and what tends to go wrong. The repair advice on this site applies everywhere. If you're not sure what's wrong, start with door won't open or close.

Cranston
ZIP codes 02910, 02920, 02921
Cranston is the center of this line. Its garages are as varied as its neighborhoods: older homes with detached garages and shared driveways on the east side, postwar capes and ranches through the middle of the city, and newer homes with attached two-car garages in Western Cranston. Here's what tends to come up in each part of the city.
Edgewood
Older homes close to the Providence line and the water, many with narrow driveways and single-car detached garages set behind the house. Expect older wood or steel doors, extension springs, and plenty of rust at the bottom brackets from the damp bay air.
Pawtuxet Village
Right at the mouth of the Pawtuxet River where it meets the cove. Some of the most salt-exposed garages in the city. Rollers, hinges and cables near the floor tend to rust first, and frozen bottom seals are common after nor'easters.
Knightsville
Dense streets of older homes, many on small lots with shared or tight driveways and detached garages. Low headroom and older framing come up often when doors are replaced here.
Garden City, Oaklawn and Meshanticut
Postwar capes and ranches, many with attached or tuck-under single and double garages. A lot of these doors and openers are original or second-generation, so springs and older chain drive openers are frequent calls.
Eden Park, Arlington and Auburn
Mixed older housing on the eastern side of the city, with a lot of detached garages and shared driveways. Worth telling the company if access is tight or a neighbor's car may be in the way.
Western Cranston
Larger lots and newer subdivisions from the 1960s onward, with attached two-car garages, torsion springs and belt drive openers. Exposed hillside lots catch more wind and drifting snow in nor'easters.

Cranston's neighbor to the north, with postwar neighborhoods near the Cranston line and more rural roads toward the west. Many homes have attached garages with original-era doors that are reaching the end of their springs and cables.
Warwick
ZIP codes 02886, 02888, 02889
A long shoreline on Narragansett Bay and Greenwich Bay, from Pawtuxet and Gaspee down through Conimicut and Oakland Beach. Shoreline neighborhoods deal with the same salt air rust as Pawtuxet Village, often worse.
West Warwick
ZIP code 02893
Former mill villages along the Pawtuxet River with older multi-family homes, small detached garages and tight lots. Older doors, older openers and limited headroom are common.
Coventry
ZIP code 02816
A large town stretching from mill villages in the east to wooded, rural areas in the west. Longer driveways, detached barns and outbuildings, and more snow to clear in front of the door.
Scituate
ZIP code 02857
Rural and wooded, around the Scituate Reservoir. Homes are spread out, and many have detached garages or barns with larger doors. Power outages during storms make opener battery backup worth asking about.
North Providence
ZIP code 02911
Dense neighborhoods like Centredale and Fruit Hill with a mix of capes, ranches and multi-family homes. Single-car garages and tuck-under garages are common.
Providence (south and west side)
ZIP codes 02905, 02907, 02908, 02909
Neighborhoods bordering Cranston, from Washington Park and Elmwood to Silver Lake and Mount Pleasant. Many older homes with detached rear garages reached by narrow driveways.
East Greenwich
ZIP code 02818
From the harbor on Greenwich Bay to larger homes on the hills to the west. Waterfront streets see salt air corrosion, while newer homes often have double doors and insulated garages.
Smithfield
ZIP code 02917
Suburban neighborhoods, orchards and rural roads in the northern part of the county. Mostly attached garages with torsion springs, and plenty of snow to keep away from the bottom seal.
Foster
ZIP code 02825
One of the most rural towns in the area, with long driveways, barns and outbuildings. Tell the company about the door size and access when you call.
Lincoln
ZIP code 02865
Villages like Lime Rock, Manville and Albion, plus newer subdivisions. A mix of older detached garages and newer attached two-car garages.
Businesses in these towns can call too. See commercial overhead doors for what to have ready.
Not on the list?
If your town isn't listed, for example Pawtucket, Glocester or North Kingstown, you're still welcome to call. The prompt checks your ZIP code and tells you if a company is available in your area.
Renters, multi-family homes and shared driveways
Parts of Cranston, Providence, North Providence and West Warwick have a lot of two- and three-family homes, and garages behind them are often shared or reached by a driveway shared with a neighbor. Before booking a repair, check your lease or ask the owner who's responsible for the garage door. Many owners already have a company they use. If the driveway is shared, a quick word with the neighbor about a work van blocking it for an hour or two saves trouble on the day.
Living near the water? Read the salt air and rust guide, which matters most for homes along the bay.
Questions people ask
Which towns does this line cover?
All of Cranston (ZIP codes 02910, 02920 and 02921) plus Johnston, Warwick, West Warwick, Coventry, Scituate, North Providence, the south and west side of Providence, East Greenwich, Smithfield, Foster and Lincoln.
Will the same company come to every town?
No. The line tries to connect you with an independent company that serves your ZIP code. Different companies cover different areas.
I rent. Can I call about the garage door?
Yes, but check your lease or ask the owner first. In multi-family homes and shared driveways the owner is usually responsible for the garage door, and a technician will often need their OK before starting work.
